Thank Your Lucky Stars
Last night as I was about ready to fall asleep, my phone buzzed. It was on the charger just out of reach and I was so sleepy, I was planning to just ignore it. But then it buzzed again, so I rolled over and read the message.
It was from my dad who wanted to let me know that my little brother had been in an car accident. My brother and one of his friends were on the way home from ice fishing at the lake. Max was driving and hit a patch of black ice which caused them to fish tail, hit a snow bank, and roll around 3-5 times off the side of the road.
Despite totaling his car, Max and his friend walked away without a scratch. Which is amazing, because shortly after their fiasco, another car bit the bullet in the same spot and the fire department had to use the jaws of life to free a woman from her car.
Obviously I was shaken up by the whole catastrophe, especially since I was far away and getting updates as they were coming in. Needless to say, it's times like these that make you wonder how there can't be someone or something somewhere who's looking out for you. Regardless as to how or why things happen the way they do, it's important to take the time to thank your lucky stars for what you've got.
