Mom's the Word

I had an absolutely wonderful weekend because I spent it with my lovely mama. Did you know we hadn't seen each other in 8 weeks? It was the longest we went without seeing each other in 23 years. Needless to say, I was ecstatic to see her.

We started the weekend off right on Friday evening with happy hour at Bar Louie in the Power and Light District. They have a great lineup of martinis, so I tried the Effen Cucumber which was effen good – so I ordered a second, naturally. We then hightailed it up the street to see George Lopez for a comedy show. He was pretty funny – especially when he imitated white people.

We woke up to gorgeous weather on Saturday so after breakfast we headed out to do some flea market shopping. Neither of us purchased anything, but it was fun to just wander around and get inspired by the old ( and new ).

Later in the afternoon we headed over to City Market where we hit up the farmer's market. It was gorgeous out so the market was in full swing. We grabbed some smoothies ( above ) and walked around the market picking up some items for a Sunday lunch and popping in and out of the local shops. We then made our way to Harry's for a cold beer and munched on some hummus.

The sun was still shining so we headed over to "the lake" – okay, a small pond – which was actually just across the street from my apartment. Leave it to my mom to know more about the geography of where I live than I do. We grabbed a stack of magazines and found a spot to plop near the pond. The wind picked up, but we powered through because we were just so happy to be outside.
