Wine + Canvas

Saturday afternoon I met my mom, my best friend, and her mom in Des Moines for the weekend. The four of us got together as an excuse to celebrate my birthday a few weeks early. We attended a Wine and Canvas event at Jasper Winery.

None of us had participated in a Wine and Canvas event, but had heard fairly good things about similar events. All of us were intimidated by the painting and concerned we would be the worst in the group. We weren’t. It’s so interesting how we all received the same direction and used the same materials to paint the same picture but the final canvases turned out so unique.

The wine definitely helped get the creative juices flowing, but I do have to admit I was losing steam towards the end of the event. I think my painting process is similar to the bell curve. It starts off so-so, then I start to build confidence which then peaks and diminishes quickly. The more detail we added, the less happy I became with the end result. ( I resorted to my fingers at the end. )

All said and done, we felt pretty proud to have stuck it out and were (mostly) happy with our work. I think we all agreed it would be something fun for a group event and would recommend it to anyone interested.
