SNL 40

Who tuned in for SNL 40? I actually forgot all about until I got a Twitter notification. It's pretty crazy to think that this show has been around for 40 years. Through good and bad, ups and downs, it's something our country can count on once a week to unite us through smiles and laughs.

I truly think the cast members, writers, producers, and entire crew that make this show possible have the greatest job in the world. Even when the skits aren't the funniest or the musical guest isn't overly exciting, they still put on a good show. And for an hour or so you forget about the stress and the bad news, and you soak up some good.

Nothing makes me happier than when the cast members can't make it through a skit without breaking character. And apparently Andy and Adam agreed. #ThatsWhenYouBreak

I think Wayne and Garth's top 10 list summed up exactly why this show has survived for as long as it has. Here's to another 40.

Oh, and can I just say Paul killed it, I actually liked Miley's performance, and I thought Kanye was a good sport.

And wine. Lots of wine. 

But for real, I hope all my love birds out there enjoy this truly magnificent day. Just remember you deserve to be well-loved every other 364 days of the year. Don't settle for anything less.

Did you guys know 50% of Americans are single? That means I'm totally average. I can totally do average! ( Though I wonder of that 50% how many are children under the age of 18 and 80+ widowers... ) 

Anyway, I'm a pretty big fan of Valentine's Day...it's always the holiday with the best post-holiday candy sales. ( Though you've got to go early to beat all the poor shmucks who got dumped today and are in serious need of a chocolate binge! )

T-Shirt Idea: Goodbyes Stink

If you didn't bawl during Michael Scott's last episode, you're not human. I literally have tears streaming down my face and the biggest lump in my throat. I don't even know if I can keep watching knowing he's no longer leading the most dysfunctional office in Scranton. This show set the standard for what good TV consists of: a great cast, tremendous writing, and relatable characters. ( I guess it makes sense that this is probably my second favorite TV series after Parks and Recreation. )

I Love Amy Poehler

Since I've been trapped indoors for the past few days, I caught up on a couple of magazines that I hadn't had the time to read. One of those was the fourth annual Women in TV issue of Elle. Now that I'm back on the Netflix bandwagon, I actually wanted to read this issue because I could actually relate to the shows + actresses being discussed.

The issue featured four leading ladies: Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling, Allison Williams, and Zoey Deschanel. Obviously, I flipped straight to the section about Amy Poehler. The interview discussed Amy's past, present, and future career, and was all-around entertaining ( naturally ).

But what I really loved was what other actors said about Amy. Especially this:

As Mindy Kaling once wrote, “Everyone has a moment when they discover they love Amy Poehler.”

My moment was the first episode of Parks and Rec. I remember it clearly because I had seen Amy in other roles – Baby Mama, a few SNL skits, a small stint in Mean Girls – but to be honest, I never really thought she was that great.

That all changed when I watched Parks. I finally understood her humor and fell in love with her characters and with her as a person. She's genius in so many ways, and I will be heartbroken the day Parks ends. But I'll never forget the day I discovered I love Amy Poehler.

It takes a strong, secure woman to remind us it's totally okay to break free from conformity and get a little weird. In this case, that woman happens to be an tiny and adorable six-year-old. Let your freak flags fly, ladies. Work it, love it, own it.
